BBC backs down over Pogues classic



BBC Radio 1 has reversed its determination to censor the classic Pogues and Kirsty MacColl song 'Fairytale of Freshly York'.
The station had decided to bleep out the word "faggot" from the song because it could be offensive to listeners.
Simply BBC 1 controller Andy Parfitt said last night: "After careful condition, I induce decided that the decision to edit the Pogues birdsong Fairy tale of Fresh York was legal injury."
Parfitt said that the song did not use the holy Writ with any "negative design".

He said: "Wireless 1 does non play homophobic lyrics or condone bullying of any kind. It is non constantly soft to catch this right, mindful of our responsibility to our brigham Young audience. The unedited version volition be played from now on."
